The day Catherine came home: An adoption story

You may remember Anna’s adoption story that Marysol captured so beautifully a few years ago. When Taryn contacted me for her second adoption I was so excited and honoured to play witness to such a special, life-changing time in this mommy and soon-to-be big sister’s life.

Taryn had waited a long time for Anna’s adoption, and so wasn’t expecting the second to fall into place as quickly as it did. Just like many mommies that go into early labour and don’t quite making it to their planned maternity leave, Taryn too was caught off guard at the unexpected early arrival of her baby girl, Catherine.

Unlike Anna, who was at a nurturing safe house for her first three months, Catherine had a wonderful family looking after her from the time she left the hospital. They wrapped up a beautiful frame with pictures from Catherine’s first three months with them, as well as her first outfit and trinkets for Taryn to keep for baby Catherine.

What a touching day to capture, from the last-minute preparations at home, the drive to collect baby Catherine (the emotions and anticipation growing with each passing moment!), then finally meeting the newest member of the family, the drive home and at last the introduction and celebration with the rest of the family at home.

Big sister Anna was in awe of her little sister from the very first moment, and her excitement was absolutely contagious! How exciting to stand at the brink of this very special bond of sisterhood!

The day was superb and unforgettable all around, and I feel very honoured indeed to have been able to photograph all the magical moments…

Hope you enjoy this fabulous session - the video is especially emotive!
