Relaxed maternity session on sunny Glen Beach | Susan

Glen Beach, a small, secluded beach just off to the side of Camps Bay’s main beach, was the perfect setting for this intimate maternity shoot.

As usual, I arrived a few minutes to plan the session out according to the tides, sun and the crowds. It was a fairly hot day with no wind. Gorgeous!

I must tell you how much I enjoy a photo session on the beach. The mood at sunset is amazing! And Camps Bay is always teeming with the holiday feeling, no matter what time of year it is. The smell of sunblock and sound of laughter in the air; towels being sanded off; some relaxed ball games and even a few young ones smoking a little green on top of the boulders… I mean, come on, it is Cape Town after all!

We had planned to start shooting at 7pm, hoping that the sun would have softened enough for some beautiful lighting. To our great surprise, we were still sweating in the summer heat well after 7pm!

Although the sun proved to be higher and stronger than I would have liked, this made for some dreamy, playful lighting when hiding behind the massive boulders. Of course, it was also great fun to play in the water for a little cool down during the session!

What a lovely, relaxed session this was… Might it have been the green in the air? Nah, just the absolute joy and excitement of a family on the brink of becoming four!
