Gentle cesarean birth at Cape Town Mediclinic | Jesse

At midnight the night before Glennita and Jan’s expected c-section date, I received a call to say mom’s waters had just broken. Thankfully, the hospital is just a ten minute drive from my home, so I was there ready for action very soon!

Mom and dad looked so excited and nervous, with the realisation of “oh-my-goodness-we’re-about-to-become-parents” written all over their faces.

While the doctors prepped mommy for theatre, dad had a chance to grab a quick cup of coffee to calm his nervous. Soon after he swigged his last sip, we were called into the theatre: Delivery of their baby was under way!

At 00:34, a gorgeous little boy was born, weighing in at 3.3kg. Jesse was welcomed by his delighted and proud parents!

It was wonderful to capture his first skin-to-skin moments with his ecstatic dad. Jan was clearly over the moon and totally in love with his newborn son! Clearly, he also fell in love with Glennita all over again…
