Why I chose Birth Photography

In 2010, as an aspiring photographer and then a student, my class mates and I had the task to learn about the photographers who made their mark in history. From war photographers in the heart of battle, to portrait photographers who have the talent to capture the very essence of a human in just one image, it was all awe-inspiring! I was also surrounded by incredible peers who were capturing magnificent moments themselves. I realised then that we are all on some kind of path, deciding how to shape our own photographic presence.

I’ve always had a creative brain, so the building of a story with a camera became something that really intrigued me. I wanted to grow and become diligent in what I was photographing. As I developed this skill, I became more and more aware of how beautiful and genuine the emotions are in an unposed photograph. This is where my passion took root.

Birth photography spoke to these roots: The raw emotions of the moment take precedence above everything else. I feel such warmth and compassion towards the families I photograph, as they go through such an intimate and life-changing event! The desire to capture true beauty from the richness of birth, is why I am so invested in my clients and in being the best birth photographer I can be.

I believe that when you are truly dedicated to nurturing and developing your skill, it nests itself deep into your mind, eventually becoming a part of you. As a professional birth photographer, my eye is trained to take note of the details, to grab hold of the emotions that are playing out in front of me, and document it in a way that is a beautiful and true depiction of your unique birth story.

I see a glorious woman at her most vulnerable and most strong. I see the fears of soon-to-be-parents, facing the challenge of the unknown that lies ahead. I see the care and skill of medical professionals that go above and beyond for their patients. And as a specialised birth photographer, a mother and an empath, I have the ability to be a safe space for you. I have the knowledge and experience to be a comfort in your time of need.

Birth is powerful, beautiful and utterly genuine. One of the most sacred moments a human could witness. And I am a witness, lovingly building your story through my camera for you to cherish forever.

Now, many years later, I have been lucky enough to document over 60 unique births. Every birth is still as incredible as the first one I photographed… And, not a single parent has ever expressed regret over hiring me. I know all too well that the birth of your child(ren) is a life-altering moment, worth documenting and remembering - just as important as your wedding day!
