Travelling to Cape Town to birth your baby

As the premier birth photographer in South Africa, I often have clients who choose to travel to Cape Town to birth their babies. With birth photography being such intimate work, I am privileged to play a small roll in my clients’ lives. It really is wonderful to also get to know the beautiful journey of how they have come to be in my home town.

Here’s what Zari’s mom had to say:

Almost three years have passed since little Zari was born in wonderful Cape Town and time has ran just so fast!

We live in Zanzibar, Tanzania, and made the decision to go to South Africa to deliver in order for it to be safer as well as taking our last holiday before her birth.

Cape Town was a wonderful place in all senses: We got a great service from the Origin Clinic in Panorama (unfortunately closed now) and an amazing background for all our pictures!

Kristen was recommended by another birth photographer and never was a choice more successful. We met over a coffee and clicked.

She definitely had, and still has way more experience than me with babies and births. That turned out to be very useful during the delivery as well as after, when Zari had to be admitted to the NICU for an infection.

She’s been a wonderful partner all along, including when I was suffering in the bathtub and she was holding my head with the towel laying on it. Plenty pictures still remind me of those moments.

Wonderful, scary and hurting like hell at the same time!

It was so special to not only support Elisa and her husband during their birth, but after as well. We have remained beautifully supportive friends over the years, with the root of the friendship cemented in the shared experience of Zari’s beautiful birth.
