Beautiful beach goddess expects her second | Hermainne

I always get swept up in my clients’ excitement at a maternity shoot… I just can’t help it!

It’s even more special when it’s a long-standing client’s photo shoot, as the road I’ve walked with them during their previous birth makes me feel really invested in their lives and wellbeing. After all, I played witness to their baby being born. And now, that baby is becoming a big brother or sister! How incredible is that?!

Well, Hermainne and Cecil were my very first natural birth clients, after I became a specialised birth photographer. At that time, many moons ago, I was a back-up for Alda Smith. Since babies arrive when they are good and ready, and as Alda was already at another birth, I stepped in to document Hermainne and Cecil’s happy moment at Mediclinic Panorama with Dr Lourens.

I had the most magical experience along with them, welcoming their son into this world. Even better, I have been able to continue our relationship, and watch their boisterous little boy grown and thrive. If you missed their stunning family session a year ago, you can see it here.

Now, I’m so pleased to share that number two is well on the way! I’m just as excited as they are to find out if it’s a boy or a girl….

I chatted to Hermainne about a how this second pregnancy compares to her first. 

Hermainne admits that at times, she finds it harder this time around. She does not feel as focussed as she was with her first - there are just so many things that are happening!

Even though you are no less invested with your second pregnancy, you now have a toddler or small child around that needs a lot of your attention. Your focus is divided.

However, Hermainne and Cecil encourage other parents to make a conscious effort to stay present and make the effort to capture your memories. Hermainne constantly reminds herself that this is not just her and her husband having a second baby, but her son’s FIRST time becoming a big brother!

As Hermainne and Cecil are both in the medical field, the harsh reality of how volatile and precious life is, is kept front of mind (especially in times like these!). It truly important to create these keepsakes and lasting memories.

With her boys by her side, Hermainne looked absolutely radiant - an elegant and glowing beach goddess! Even though it was freezing on Derdesteen Beach, it was so easy to make this family look good. They are just so happy!
